Poor road conditions across the Peace has prompted DriveBC to issue a travel advisory for Highways 2, 97, and 29.
Freezing rain overnight and light snow that followed this morning has made driving treacherous in many areas, particularly on hills and corners.
“Travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary,” states the advisory.
Environment Canada is forecasting snow, blowing snow, and winds gusting to 60 kilometres-an-hour throughout the day, easing only slightly by this evening.
School District 60 has cancelled bus service for the day – schools, however, do remain open.
Besides blowing and drifting snow, wind chill values will continue to drop over the next 48 hours, hovering near -30 until at least Wednesday morning.
