Tyler Musgrove of the Okanagan Hockey Academy was named the 2020 Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSHL) Male Humanitarian of the Year last week. Musgrove, who grew up in Fort St. John and played minor hockey with the Flyers and in his fourth year with the CSSHL, was recognized for his role in helping a single mother and her two sons during the 2019 Christmas season.
Musgrove, an assistant captain, emailed the organization South Okanagan Women In Needs (SOWINS), and together with his teammates, organized the filling of two hampers — one with food and one with toys. He did so in an effort to bring his team together and do something positive for teh community while hoping to spark better play from the team on the ice. He asked each player to give $30.
"He's a good kid and he comes from a good family," said Todd Alexander with Best Hockey Performance and the Fort St. John Huskies. "He's really grown as a player in the last couple years and if he keeps his drive up and working hard, he could have some good junior hockey opportunities."
