Virtual funeral service for "clean-up supervisor" Vance Dancy goes Thursday

Longtime Charlie Lake and Fort St. John resident — and friendly face — Vance Dancy died last Thursday, October 26, at the age of 86.

Longtime Charlie Lake and Fort St. John resident — and friendly face — Vance Dancy died last Thursday, October 26, at the age of 86.

Dancy was a constant-fixture for years on the side of Highway 97 near Charlie Lake picking up garbage and smiling at people who drove by, and continued waving at people on the street past summer when he lived at the Peace Lutheran Apartments.

"I've gone from clean-up supervisor to being the Fort St. John sidewalk supervisor," Dancy said in June 2020.

When asked why he always appeared to be in such a good mood, even amidst tough circumstances like the pandemic, Dancy said, "Well, there's no reason why a person can't."

Family and friends are welcome to watch his funeral service through livestream on Thursday, November 5 at 2 p.m., on the Hamres Funeral Chapel website.

Dancy was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on October 22, 1934.
