Though you won’t be able to dip into a bowl of Ukrainian dill pickle soup or try your hand at Chinese calligraphy, Fort St. John’s World Fair returns Saturday to give residents a virtual trip around the world.
The annual event is being held online this year due to COVID-related public health restrictions. Still, it aims to promote the city’s growing multiculturalism and break down down barriers with unfamiliar cultures. Thailand, the Philippines, Switzerland, and China are just some of the countries the fair will celebrate this year.
“The World Fair is a community cultural event created by the Fort St John League of United Youths and SD60 SWIS program, to promote awareness & appreciation for the values, traditions and heritage of diverse cultures in FSJ,” said Jane Drew, program co-ordinator for the Settlement Workers in Schools program, which organizes the event.
“This year's virtual event celebrates multiculturalism & friendship among different cultures and offers a great opportunity to virtually meet people from all over the world.”
