An assault charge and pending court date are now on Dawson Creek dockets after a real-time live, and filmed confrontation in a Mile Zero parking lot Thursday.
On Thursday, Kevin J. Johnstone, expected to speak at Saturday's DC Freedom Rally, walked into Dave's No Frills with others rolling camera to buy soap.
As they attended without masks, they were asked to leave Dave's No Frills. Upon exiting, the group met up with No Frills owner Dave Krane.
After a few moments Dawson Creek RCMP attended to the grocery store after reports of a disturbance.
While Johnston claimed Krane assaulted him, and subsequently attempted numerous citizen arrests by repeating the words "citizen's arrest" - upon their attendance RCMP took Johnston into custody.
"Investigation determined that a group of individuals had entered the establishment without face masks as per the current Provincial Health Order and created a disturbance for which they were asked to leave by multiple employees," says RCMP Staff Sgt. Damon Werrell.
"An employee followed the group to the parking lot to collect license plates for a subsequent report to police. During an altercation between the employee and the subjects, one of the subjects punched the employee in the face."
Kevin Johnston has been charged with one count of Assault. He was released by a Judge on March 26 with a variety of conditions.
