After being on hiatus for several years, the staff at Jackfish Dundee’s Pub have decided it’s long past time to revive the Bartender Olympics.

Jackfish general manager Nikki Falkenberg took part in the Olympics years ago and remembers it being a lot of fun.

“I used to participate when I worked at Egan’s many moons ago and now I’m the GM here and I thought it was so fun, and it was quite a community event, so I thought we’d get it going again,” she said.

There will be a variety of events, including a drink/shot making competition and an obstacle course that participants will have to go through with a tray full of “drinks,” which they have to keep upright or else lose points for spillage.

Six teams had officially RSVP’d as of July 29, but Falkenberg says they could have up to 10 teams take part.

“A lot of the newer establishments have never heard of it,” she said. “This is going to be the first time for some of them, so we’ll see what the turnout is.”

The Bartender Olympics take place  Sunday, Aug. 7, on the back lawn at Jackfish Dundee’s. Events are expected to get started around noon.

Falkenberg thinks the event will be a good time for everyone taking part as well as those that come to watch the shenanigans.

“Especially with the economy the way it is, we want to bring people together and have a good time.”
