An internationally-acclaimed Beatles cover band called the BeatleManiacs will perform at the Lido Theatre this Friday night.

"We are four-piece tribute-band to the Beatles," said Greg Weeks, the group's answer to George Harrison.

"We do a full style Broadway production show including video. We travel through the various Beatle-eras. From the mop-tops, Ed Sullivan look, to Sgt. Pepper, to the Abbey Road era with all of the harmonies and guitar parts. There is Beatle humour too."

Weeks said he and the band's drummer, Burak Ceylan, came up with the idea about 14 years ago.

'We started this band back in 1997 and we have been touring since then.

"We put together a set of Beatles music when we were just a regular band performing on cruise ships and it just went over like gangbusters. It is obvious that the crowds respond to the Beatles, no matter what age they are, from two to 99 and beyond. We just slowly started to get some suits, some wigs and all of the original instruments. We started really exploring the whole career of the group, from 1963 to 1970."

He said the Beatles evolved a great deal over that period.

"During that seven years they changed so much, their look, their sound, their studio-sound. They stopped performing and touring so you kind of have to interpret it yourself from 1966 onward. We have made our own show, the more modern era for them, from 1966 to 1970."

What separates BeatleManiacs from other cover bands is age and commitment to the task.

"I think we are little younger than most Beatles cover bands," Weeks said with a laugh.

"We are very passionate about it. It is not something we do as a hobby on the side. This is our full time work, this is all we do. I guess that puts us in a different group with only a few other bands that do that."

They have travelled all over the world, he added.

"We have played in 30 countries, in over 100 cities. Our stock and trade is in Europe. As soon as we leave Fort St. John we will be flying directly to Italy. We do a lot of work in Italy. We have toured in Canada, South America, the United States, England and as far east as Turkey."

In August, Rolling Stone magazine chose what they consider the Beatle's top ten songs of all time:

1.A Day in the Life

2.I Want to Hold Your Hand

3.Strawberry Fields Forever

4.Yesterday

5.In My Life

6.Something

7.Hey Jude

8.Let It Be

9.Come Together

10.While My Guitar Gently

Weeps
