A new children's book by a pair of Fort St. John authors aims to teach children every body, especially their own, is perfect just the way it is.
The mother-daughter team of Bev Berg and Megan Knott launched their newest book, Perfectly Me, and held a book signing at Coles on March 23. The book follows a little bear named Gracie and she talks about positive body image.
"She talks about the different parts of her body and just how proud she is to be the way she is," Knott said.
"Everything works the way it's supposed to, and you can be proud to be just the way you are, perfectly you."
The book is part of Berg and Knott's series of books that double as a mental health resource for children through stories, pictures, meditation, and hypnotherapy. Each book has a theme and comes with an accompanying meditative script for kids and caregivers to read or listen to as they fall asleep.
"Each book comes with guided imagery or hypnotherapy scripts to address a specific issue that a child might be having, or to instil positive mental processes," Berg said.
Berg works as a counselling hypnotherapist, and Knott is an elementary teacher.
"If we can start getting these tools of healthy mental processes and positive self-esteem into the hands of children and their caregivers, in the future teachers like me and counselling hypnotherapists don't have classrooms full of children who are struggling or adults that are struggling, Knott said.
"We want good mental health to be like brushing your teeth. it should be something you practice everyday."
