The Lido Theatre will be full of laughs for the first time in more than a year this week when the Jokes N Tokes Comedy Tour stops in Fort St. John, August 19 and 20.
The two performances are the first shows at the theatresince last fall. The tour started in Ontario two weeks ago, and the Western Canadian leg kicks off in Hinton, August 18, before the two Fort St. John shows. The tour features comedians Andrew Packer, Che Durena, and Jacob Balshin, who stopped in Fort St. John back in October 2018, the tour's first year of existence.
Packer said he and the JNT tour were able to put on a couple shows in November 2020 and March 2021, but this is the first regular in-person tour they've put on since the pandemic began.
"We're so excited to be back on tour and to see everyone. We have such a peculiar yet relatable experience that we haven't had the chance to chat about. We all got so isolated during the pandemic that it's an interesting topic to explore and build jokes around," Packer said.
Packer said he, Balshin, and Durena have been working diligently on online content throughout the pandemic, and will be sharing a mix of new jokes with older, more reliable material.
"We've kicked all of our rust off these first two weeks of tour," said Packer.
So far, the audiences have brought a great energy to the shows, as both fans and comics are excited to finally go to live shows again.
"It's a really fun energy to deal with. People can get a bit too excited sometimes, maybe too much drinking here and there, but that's something we deal with most of the time," Packer said.
He remembers the 2018 Fort St. John stop well, calling it a wild show, and he's exited to return to the Lido this week.
"All of us are fully in love with going up and performing in different places, the experiences of being in a new city, going to the local hot spots, and having a variety of different people coming into our shows. We've all been eager to get back on the road and be in front of audiences again. We're excited and we hope everyone brings a fun energy to the shows," Packer said.
Both shows start at 8 p.m. Call the the Lido at 250-785-3011 for more details.
