Montney artist Lorna Penner has won first prize in the Colours of Fall Juried Exhibition by the Peace River Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Penner received the Ovintiv Award of Excellence for her painting ‘I Rest My Case’, which depicts a Case tractor resting lazily in a field and mixes watercolour paints and melted wax on Japanese rice paper.
Second prize went to Grande Prairie artist Elizabeth Hutchinson for ‘Balance’, an oil on canvas work featuring a young child playing in a pond. Third prize went to Beaverlodge artist Donna Kaut for her work 'Glory’, an oil on canvas piece of a saskatoon berry shrub.
Kenneth Lane of Charlie Lake received an honourable mention for his acrylic on canvas piece titled ‘Finding Peace’, which pictures a scenic fall drive along Highway 97 near the Pine Pass.
Other honourable mentions went to Laurie McCallum of Grande Prairie, for her acrylic on canvas piece titled ‘Brighter Days Ahead’, which features two silhouettes in a dancing embrace against a colourful backdrop of red, yellow, orange.
Mimi Zhang-Mackie of Goodfare received an honourable mention for her piece titled 'Autumn', a watercolour painting of a doll and Chinese lanterns in ultramarine blue and autumn colours.
Colours of Fall will be on display from Oct. 1 to 29 at the Centre for Creative Arts in Grande Prairie.
