Man pepper-sprays multiple people — including a child — in unprovoked Coquitlam road rage incident

RCMP is asking for video or dashcam footage as they seek to identify the suspect; the incident took place near Brunette and King Edward.

There were no injuries, but a four-year-old child was among multiple people that had to go through decontamination after they were pepper-sprayed in a serious case of road rage in Coquitlam.

RCMP is reaching out to the public in hopes of obtaining video of the incident from last month and identifying the suspect involved in the unprovoked attack.

On Friday (Nov. 26) around 4:45 p.m., a male driver followed the victims' vehicle for a one-kilometre stretch from Austin Avenue and Marmont Street to Brunette Avenue and King Edward Street — near the northwest corner of Mackin Park.

When they reached the intersection, he deployed pepper spray into the vehicle before fleeing westbound on Brunette.

"This type of unchecked aggression and complete disregard for the safety and well-being of others has no place on our roads," explains RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Paige Kuz.

"Thankfully, no one suffered serious physical injuries, however, the impact of such a brazen act of violence can have long-lasting effects on one’s own perception of safety. We all deserve to feel safe in our community; there is absolutely no excuse for road rage."

BC Ambulance Service and Mounties were called to the scene.

All efforts in finding the suspect or his vehicle have come up short.

He is described as:

  • South Asian
  • 20 to 30 years old
  • Thin build
  • Some facial hair
  • Wearing...
    • Baseball hat
    • Black jacket

His vehicle — a Honda Accord — is described as:

  • White
  • Newer-model or similar
  • Four doors
  • Noticeable damage on the rear end of the passenger side
  • No license plate number available

Coquitlam RCMP is asking motorists and witnesses travelling in the area of the incident between 4:30 and 5 p.m. on Nov. 26 to come forward or submit dashcam footage as part of the investigation.

Anyone with more information about the incident is encouraged to call Coquitlam Mounties at 604-945-1550, anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go online to www.solvecrime.ca.
