2021 Oilmen's Trapshoot results

The Fort St. John Petroleum Association put on the Oilmen's Trapshoot for the second time in the pandemic era last weekend, the only Oilmen's event to take place during this span.

The Fort St. John Petroleum Association held the 2021 Oilmen's Trapshoot July 10, with 45 shooters out at the North Peace Rod and Gun Club for the 38th annual Trapshoot. The event featured the same number of shooters as last year, with each participant firing 100 single rounds and 50 handicap rounds.

Garth Willson won the high overall, a year after finishing second, with 139 points. Terry Willson was the high senior for the second straight year, with Rapid Wireline repeating as team champions. Tip Johnson had the highest score in the AAA singles division.

Though this year's event was scaled back for the second year in the row, Oilmen's Trapshoot Chair Nicolas Wick was happy with how the event went.

"This has been such a challenging time, throughout Covid, so I really appreciate the community support. I want to personally thank the sponsors, and I'm absolutely thrilled we were able to get enough support to hold the event," said Wick.

"This was the only Oilmen's event to take place (during the pandemic), and I'm quite proud of everyone involved in putting it on."

The 2020 Oilmen's Curling Tournament began, but was cut short after new B.C. health restrictions were put in place that same week.

Wick said the trapshoot committee hopes to have a full blown shoot next year, with the usual 125 shooters, as they get ready for a big 40th anniversary shoot in 2023.
