2021 Senior Provincial Rodeo results

The South Region has four riders heading to the States for the National Finals Rodeo this August as well.

The BC High School Rodeo Association was able to hold their provincial finals after all, after the BCHSRA received notice May 26 that they could go ahead with the event. From there, it was a sprint for two weeks to get everything in order to hold the senior finals in Quesnel, June 11 to 13.

The event really went off without a hitch, with riders participating in an official rodeo for the first time in 2021, and putting a proper end to their season after rodeo finals were cancelled in 2020.

"It was absolutely fantastic. I can't say enough about all the smiles on the kid's faces, it was incredible," said Bonny Mills, High School Rodeo of BC secretary.

The top 15 people in each event were eligible for provincials, up from the usual 12. The top four from each event qualified for the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Swift Current, BC, August 6 to 8. The South Region has four riders heading to the States for the National Finals Rodeo this August as well.

"It was quite a big ordeal pulling this off with such little notice. Our hair was pulled straight back, it was crazy," said Mills. "There were some kids struggling at first, they haven't been in competition for a while, but it is what it is."

The association is hosting the Junior Provincial Finals this weekend, June 18 to 20, in Merritt.
