The third annual Dawson Creek Athletic Association's Cash Scramble this weekend attracted a full slate of golfers and raised about $12,000 that will go towards sports-related capital projects that fit the DCAA's mandate.
"It was great. Everybody enjoyed themselves and the golfing was good," said DCAA organizer Alvie Shearer.
"It (cash raised) will go to some capital project or improvement around Dawson Creek."
The charity tourney at the Dawson Creek Golf and Country Club Saturday and Sunday attracted 36 teams and 144 golfers overall who shared in the $50,000 prize money.
Matt Edge's team, which included Ryan Hart, Tyler Stevens and Devon Shingo, won the A side with a minus 16.Walter Mineault and his team shot a minus 12 to win the B flight. His team included Rudy Paquette, Roland Supernault and Craig Letendre.
And Kirk Fynn's foursome won the C along with teammates Rob Powell, Terry Wheeler and Kevin Kutschinski. They also had a minus 16.
While many of the golfers were locals, there were also several teams from elsewhere in the Peace Country.
There were participants from Chetwynd and Fort St. John who pencil in the date on their calendars every June and make it an annual event.
"It is getting to be (a regional thing) and people are talking about it earlier and plan to play in it. It is a great fun golf weekend," explained Shearer, adding his thanks to all the sponsors who helped out.
