Due to a lack of interest and team availability, the Fort St. John Curling Club has postponed its annual men's and women's bonspiel set for November 22 and 23. The bonspiel has been rescheduled for February 7 and 8.
With the deadline to register fast approaching, the club's GM Trudy Mitchell said not enough teams had signed up, and that many of the teams who would play were already set to play in the Mile Zero Cash Spiel — the Dawson Creek stop of the Peace Curling Tour — that weekend.
"We're moving it to February when all the cash spiels are finished and there will be lots of notice and time to prepare for that weekend," Mitchell said.
Aside from the postponement, Mitchell said the 2019-20 curling season has gone great, with little cancellations. Unfortunately, there was not enough interest to bring back the junior program this season.
Mitchell said there could be another Curling Try It event through the City of Fort St. John later in the year, but that none is scheduled for now. This weekend, Friday, November 8, is the club's second social night of the year. Two more curling social nights are tentatively scheduled for January 24 and March 6.
