The Fort St. John Huskies started the new year the same way they ended the old one – with a win.
The Huskies edged out the Grande Prairie Kings Friday night 4-3.
The game, though, proved to be an uphill battle as the Huskies gave up two goals with the game only ten minutes old.
Jared Winkel began the comeback midway through the second with his first of two goals. Alex Nimmo would follow up in the third, with Conrad Wiebe's marker at 5:50 proving to be the winner, after the Kings' Zachary Beamish scored in the dying seconds of the game.
The Huskies out shot their opponents 30-20; all seven goals coming at even strength.
The win gives the first-place Huskies 51 points on the season (25-1-1) and a 17-point lead over the second-place Sexsmith Vipers (15-9-4).
The Huskies continue their home stand Saturday night with a match against the Dawson Creek Kodiaks (12-13-0).
Face-off is set for 8 p.m.
