Huskies beat Kodiaks 4-3 in season opener

Huskies player Cole Cowan fires a shot on net in the second period of Fort St. John's 4-3 win over Dawson Creek, September 24.

The Fort St. John Huskies are still atop the food chain, for now. The Huskies beat the Dawson Kodiaks 4-3 on in the road in the season opener last night, to win round one of the North Peace rivalry.

Nathan Brownlee gave the Huskies the lead early in the first period, before penalties put Fort St. John in trouble and led to two Kodiak powerplay goals. Conrad Wiebe tied things up at 2-2 heading into the second.

Both teams were slower out of the gate in the second period, but once again it was the Huskies striking first. Logan Kimmie scored 10 minutes in, with Kurtis Lee making it 4-2 for the Huskies six minutes later. The Kodiaks scored before intermission to make it a one goal game headed into the final frame.

The Huskies took four penalties in the third period and were undisciplined for most if it. However, they were able to stave off the Dawson Creek onslaught, and took game one of 40 by a score of 4-3.

The Huskies will travel to face the County of Grande Prairie Kings tonight at 8 p.m. local time.
