Fort St. John’s Inconnu swim team will be in the pool in Grande Prairie this coming Saturday.

“The competition will be a 'dual meet' with only two teams (Inconnu and the host Piranhas) taking part – under strict Covid-19 gathering restrictions,” said coach Josh Sorensen.

While the event won’t have the same compete level as pre-Covid meets would have had, Sorensen says it will be a good test for close to 30 of his swimmers who have had limited, or no, race exposure.

“This will also be a big change for some of our newer swimmers,” Sorensen said, explaining that quite a few have never competed in any pool other than Fort St. John. “This pool (North Peace) is 25 metres long, where as the one in GP is fifty.”

For Grade 12 students Owen Lang and Alex McDonald, competing at this level for one last year, Sorensen says this meet will also help them prepare for divisionals in Penticton Feb. 25 to 27, and provincials in Victoria Mar. 10 to 13.
