The North Peace Secondary Grizzlies' senior boys and girls rugby clubs are getting ready for the upcoming season with a warm-up tournament in Grande Prairie on April 8.
Unlike years past, however, the team will play ‘sevens’ this year -- seven-a-side, rather than the traditional full pitch of 15.
They’ll also play in a Grande Prairie-based league with Dawson Creek's South Peace Secondary unable to field a team.
“No one knows for sure, exactly, what people have,” said team manager Crystal Dutchak. “Some teams will just be starting to put teams together after spring break. We’re lucky we’ve been practicing since the beginning of March, and have about twenty girls coming to practice and between 10 and 15 boys.”
Dutchak believes there will be both a boys and girls team from Sexsmith Secondary, Grande Prairie Composite High and Peace Wapiti Academy taking part in the league.
Games, she said, will take place on Thursdays with a tentative start date of April 21.
