Photos: Coquitlam Adanacs felled by Nanaimo Timbermen in playoff opener

The Coquitlam Adanacs had just five shots in the third period.

It’s been so long since the Coquitlam Adanacs played a Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) playoff, they may have forgotten games in the post season also last three periods

The Adanacs dropped the first game of their best-of-seven semifinal to the Nanaimo Timbermen 9-6, Saturday (Aug. 6) at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.

Making their first playoff appearance since 2013, Coquitlam spotted the visitors a 4-1 advantage in the first period then stormed back to close the score to 6-5 at the end of the second.

But whatever life the Adanacs got from their mid-game comeback fizzled in the final frame as they managed but five shots on Nanaimo goalie Devlin Shanahan and were outscored 3-1.

Clark Walter led Coquitlam’s offence with three goals and a pair of assists, while Brett Mcintyre, Ryan Johnson and Dylan Watson each contributed a pair of points.

Jon Phillips had five points for the Timbermen and Zach Manns and Taggart Clark contributed four points each.

Shanahan stopped 34 of the 40 shots he faced.

Adanacs goalie Christian Del Bianco made 43 saves.

The teams travel to Nanaimo for game two on Monday (Aug. 8), then return to Coquitlam for the third game on Wednesday (Aug. 10), 7 p.m., at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
