The North Peace Arena will remain closed for the forseeable future after it was discovered the roof of the building needs to be repaired.
Exterior upgrades are already underway, but work will be paused while plans to repair the roof are constructed. The city said the plan is for the repairs to be completed before the 2021-22 season. A repair plan will be presented to city council in the future.
“The health and safety of our users, residents and employees is paramount. We are thankful that the issue was noticed while the exterior upgrades were in process and that due to the pandemic, this does not create additional challenges for our user groups,” said CAO Milo MacDonald.
The North Peace Arena has been closed all winter.
It was set to open in January, but after provincial health orders prohibited adult sports — as well as competition for youth sports — in December, the city decided not to open the building.
