The Fort St. John Huskies began their weekend Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Grande Prairie Kings, moving to 17-0-1 on the season and tightening their clench atop the NWJHL standings.
The Huskies took full advantage of an undisciplined Grande Prairie team that racked up 54 penalty minutes through the night, with Jared Winkel, Nick Loewen, and Kurtis Lee scoring all four Huskies’ goals on the power play.
Winkel put the Huskies up 2-1 with two goals by the end of the first period, while Loewen and Lee added a goal each in the second.
“Every night we find a way to figure things out. Tonight, the discipline was phenomenal for us and you see what happened, the power play went to work,” said Coach Todd Alexander. “It’s fun to coach right now with these guys. They’re having a whole bunch of fun and we want to keep this thing rolling.”
The Huskies travel to Fairview Saturday to face the fourth-place Flyers (9-11-1). Head-to-head, the Huskies are winning the season series against Fairview 3-0.
