For the third straight year, there will be no Senior Flyers hockey in Fort St. John this season. The team announced they would not be icing a team for the 2021-22 NPHL season Tuesday morning.
"There are a number of factors that contributed to this unfortunate situation, including a continued sluggish economy, an overall insufficient number of available, committed players, and the COVID-19 pandemic," said Flyers President Paul van Nostrand.
"This decision was not taken lightly and the entire Senior Flyers organization is extremely disappointed in this development."
The Flyers were unable to ice a team for the 2019-20 season due to a lack of committed players. The organization made a substantial effort to recruit committed players and return to action last season, and was about to do so, but the pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the 2020-21 NPHL season.
"On behalf of the FSJ Senior Flyers Hockey Club, I offer my sincere apologies to all of our faithful fans, sponsors, volunteers and alumni. We will continue to dedicate our efforts toward the return of the Senior Flyers for the 2022-2023 season," van Nostrand said.
