Soccer registration into final days

South Peace Junior Soccer registration is on and it appears as if about the same number of kids will be playing the "beautiful game" this spring as did last year.

South Peace Junior Soccer registration is on and it appears as if about the same number of kids will be playing the "beautiful game" this spring as did last year.

"We are running right on par as last year for the number of players who played," said SPJS president Jerry Lawrence, after the first registration sessions.

Last year about 750 kids in the Under-5 to the Under-18 division played the sport in the city.

There are two more registration sessions: one Friday (April 9) 5-8 p.m. and another Saturday (April 10) 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The organization operates over a two-month May-June season that sees games twice a-week and a junior tournament for those in the U-10 division and younger on the June 12-13 weekend and a senior tournament for those in U-12 and older during the June 19-20 weekend.

There are presently plans for two rep teams: a U-14 boys coached by Clint Shuman and U-16 boys coached by Mark Lofvendahl. Plans for a girls' rep team are presently uncertain.

Interested rep players can register at the same time they are signing up for outdoor house soccer.

Prices are the same as last year. The cost is $100 for the first two children in a family and $75 for each child thereafter. There is a $50 late registration fee.
