Team Canada with Brooke Disher fall in World Championship opener

Will need to rebound against Sweden Tuesday
Team B.C. captain Brooke Disher celebrates winning the 2021 Western Regional Women's U18 Championship, November 6.

The Canadian under-18 women's hockey team, with former Fort St. John defenceman Brooke Disher on board, were shut out 2-0 by Finland in their opening game of the World Hockey Championship in Wisconsin Monday.

Disher, who now calls the Okanagan home, led all Canadian skaters in ice time with 22 minutes and 8 seconds.

Canada outshot the Finns 40-17 in the match and were five-for-six in the penalty kill.

Team Canada will have very little time to reflect.

They play the Swedes Tuesday afternoon.
