It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Mother, Edith Sophie Prince. She passed away peacefully at Lake Country Lodge, B.C., on April 23, 2023 at the age of 99.

Sophie was born on November 23, 1923 to Berta and Ed Anderson in Birch Hills Saskatchewan. Her parents homesteaded north of Dawson Creek, BC in 1928 where she and 3 of her siblings grew up and went to school. Sophie attended High School in Dawson Creek, graduated and went on to gain a Teachers Certificate in Victoria.  She taught school in the Dawson Creek area until 1947.

In 1943, Sophie met George Prince at Kilkerran BC. They were married on Christmas Day, 1947 at her parents’ farm. Sophie and George had seven children, Penny, Clayton, Stan, Archie, Allen, Bob and Gary. Sophie kept busy with her family, the family trucking business and her volunteer work with the Lutheran Church. In 2005, Sophie moved from Dawson Creek to Kelowna where her remaining days were spent with her extensive family, a little golf and attending Faith Lutheran Church.

Sophie was predeceased by her husband George, son Gary and granddaughter Angelique. She is survived by daughter, Penny Shaw; sons and their spouses Clayton & Rose, Stan & Valerie, Archie & Margie, Allen & Liz and Bob & Heather; and by her 12 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great Grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson Creek on June 30, 2023 at 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Kelowna or Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson Creek. Sophie’s ashes will be interred at the Dawson Creek Cemetery.

We wish to send a special thank you to the Staff of Lake Country Lodge for their care and compassion.
