Victor Collins of Vancouver, formerly of Dawson Creek, passed away at Vancouver General Hospital on August 15th, 2023 at the age of 82 with his sisters Donna and Frances by his side.

Victor was the third born child to Walter and Margaret (Madge) Collins. He was born in St. Joseph’s hospital in Dawson Creek.

Vic graduated in 1958 from South Peace Senior Secondary. He went on to graduate from UBC with a degree in Education. He was an elementary teacher in several schools in Chetwynd and Dawson Creek and retired as the principal of Parkhill Elementary school after 25 years of service.

Throughout his life Victor loved sports. He bowled, was a dynamite pitcher in the fast-pitch softball league and was an avid competitive curler. He also enjoyed playing bridge and was an excellent player.

When Vic retired to Vancouver, he bought a condo in Vancouver’s West End and lived there until his passing. He continued playing bridge, attending theater productions, reading, walking and joining his friends for the morning gabfest at Melriches Coffeehouse on Davie Street. Frequent walks in Stanley Park and along the seawall kept Victor healthy and in good shape.

Victor ate supper at Stepho’s on Davie Street and later the Olympia Greek restaurant on Denman almost every day for twenty-five years. He had “Vic’s table” by the window and the staff loved him for the gentleman he was.

Vic loved Puerto Vallarta and spent many winters there. He also had his favourite restaurant there where they celebrated his birthday each year.

Victor was predeceased by his parents Walter and Madge Collins, brother Walter Stanley (Stan) as well as brothers-in-law Ted Marsh and George Smith. He leaves to mourn four sisters Darlene Smith (Manitoba), Myrna (Herman) Frank (Switzerland,) Donna (Keith) Studley (Dawson Creek), Frances Marsh (Kamloops) and brother Ron (Lorraine) Collins (Dawson Creek), as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and many good friends.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that those wishing to do so donate to a charity of their choice in Victor’s name.

Victor you will be missed. Rest in peace!
