Norma Beaudoin of the Baldonnel Women's Institute specializes in getting good ideas and following up on them.
Norma has a friend in the care home and wanted to do something for her and other Peace Villa residents. After consulting with the staff, the Baldonnel WI decided to donate eight flower arrangements, one for each of the dining areas at Peace Villa.
Flower Hut owner Marla Belziuk kindly gave Norma the arrangements for half price.
Gold claim adventures
John and Kathy Murphy are back from two weeks at their gold claim (affectionately referred to as Robber’s Roost) near Wells. The gang this year included John and Kathy, John’s dad Ron Murphy, Ron Johnson of Taylor and Robin Roots.
John tells me that when at the end of the day they turn their machine off it is very peaceful. They can enjoy the silence and hear the birds singing. That is the good side of the experience.
On the last three days it was different as the mosquitoes, no-see-ums and black flies took over. John said he didn’t know how the old prospectors survived.
Moose Mama update
Dorothy is back at our farm, or perhaps had not left. Lorne had not seen her for two weeks and assumed she and Frances her calf had moved on. Last week when Lorne was getting ready to shoot the hyena target on his 3-D course, he saw her resting off to the side with her ears perked up. He shot at the target and she didn’t mind. I think she knows we are not a threat to her (only to stuffed animals!).
Fun golfing for seniors
Annette Pearson, the Director of Zone 12 for the Seniors Games, has begun planning some activities beginning with a fun golf tournament. Phone her at 250-793-4394 to let her know if you are interested.
The tentative date is July 20.
Annette says: “We need to keep our mind and body active … We can do that and still participate in fun activities while respecting public health and safety practices.”
Quote of the week
Dr. Seuss, the author of Green Eggs and Ham, said: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
