On Dec. 8 Love Chetwynd helped 36 locally-owned, independent businesses showcase their ventures with the creation of websites financially supported by Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT). The business owners participated in a mini-tradeshow showcasing their business offerings with local dignitaries, Mayor Merlin Nichols and Ex-Mayor, Chair of NDIT on hand to assist in the launch of this great event.
LoveChetwynd.com, the “shop local” movement, is the latest addition to the largest marketing program in Canada that celebrates locally owned, independent businesses with an aim to strengthen their competitiveness and keep more dollars in the local economy. To date, more than 1200 locally-owned independent businesses have been profiled across 25 communities throughout the region. A community partnership sponsored by the NDIT, District of Chetwynd and the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce, spear-headed locally by Chamber Manager, Tonia Richter.
256 members of the public attended the event and enjoyed the complimentary refreshments, promotional give-a-ways, displays and door prizes. Board Chair (NDIT), Evan Saugstad commented, “He was pleased to welcome Chetwynd and its local entrepreneurs to this exciting program.” Mayor Merlin Nichols commented, “He was supportive of all efforts to create a strong, vibrant business community and compliments the NDIT and the Chamber of Commerce for their roles in this great program, another reason to ‘Love Chetwynd’.”
