On October 28, 2020, MP Bob Zimmer voted against Bill C-6, which will outlaw the practice of conversion therapy. Mr. Zimmer released a statement stating he opposed the bill on the grounds that it leaves open the possibility that voluntary conversions may be criminalized.

The Peace River Social Workers oppose all forms of conversion therapy. This practice causes trauma and harm, and we do not support it. A significant body of research shows that conversion therapy can result in numerous negative outcomes including anxiety and depression.

We align with the Canadian Association of Social Workers, which "strongly opposes any therapy with the goal of repairing or converting an individual's sexual orientation, regardless of age" (Canadian Psychological Association and reprinted by the CASW, Policy Statement on Conversion/Reparative Therapy for Sexual Orientation, 2018).
