This column is dedicated to making your life a beach. No matter how frustrating, sad or terrible you find your life right now there are several thing that you can start to do that will improve it. This stuff works, it is time tested. All you have to do is do it.
Boredom is like a stroke...a silent killer. At the other end of this polarity are adrenalin junkies...people who are never bored because they are taking serious risks all the time...and adrenalin junkies get killed quickly and regularly.
Boredom junkies do the same thing but at a much slower rate and eventually wind up depressed and even suicidal. Somewhere in between is the happy medium for you.
Your brain, your intelligence relieves boredom...as well as the endorphins you get from your own brain if you exercise regularly...or eat enough chocolate...or have really good, satisfying sex. Smokers tell me that a cigarette can relieve boredom, but that is a mind trick. There is nothing in the chemical make up of a cigarette that targets boredom...smokers use it as a brain washing excuse to keep on smoking.
So how do you get rid of boredom? Do something different and stimulating when life gets dull...break out of the routine and excite your brain. Drive to work by a different route, go jogging during lunch hour, if TV is dull subscribe to a cable channel that interests you, take a course in something that is of interest, meet new people, do new things. Beating boredom is a very creative process.
If you find your life boring, that's because you've chosen to let it happen. When you have chronic boredom then your personality changes and you become a dull and uninteresting person. People will alienate you and this compounds the whole problem. Also, don't hang around boring people...boredom is infectious.
Don't let yourself become a stick in the mud. Just being alive involves risk. If you are bored, start taking a few calculated risks and see what happens. Do something radically different if necessary and shock yourself into being alive once again.
As mentioned earlier, boredom is sneaky but deadly... a silent killer that can slip into your life without your full awareness. If you are a type A personality, an adrenalin junkie, or an overworked mother, you can disregard this column. For the rest of us, sooner or later we get bored and if you recognize what's going on and are willing to change it, you will avoid sadness and depression.
Being alive on this planet, right now is exciting and stimulating unless you choose to let boredom sneak in and dull your senses.
Pay attention to your mental and emotional state and if you disapprove of it...take some simple steps and get rid of boredom before it gets rid of you.
