Kokanee are heading home this fall to their final resting place - a spawning channel in Kuskanax Creek by Nakusp, which feeds into the Arrow Lakes. A cousin to Sockeye Salmon, the fish are a land locked freshwater salmon.
It's theorized that Kokanee diverged from Sockeye 15,000 years ago, when glaciers receded, leaving them inland.
