Brad Sperling was formally declared the winner of the Area C by-election on Tuesday.

The former chair of the Peace River Regional District won with 264 votes on Feb. 25, besting political newcomer Suzanne Haab who received 254 votes in a rematch of October’s general election.

Those results had been overturned by the B.C. Supreme Court after it was discovered voters outside the electoral area were given ballots despite being ineligible to vote.

The electoral area includes the communities of Charlie Lake, Old Fort, Baldonnel, Grandhaven, Clairmont, and Two Rivers, where residents were voting on a director to represent them on the board of the PRRD.

Sperling, first elected as the director for Area C in the regional district in 2014, will be sworn in on March 7.
