A Fort Nelson man is facing a number of charges after an armed robbery of the local A&W restaurant last week.
In a release, North District RCMP say the man walked up to the drive-thru window the morning of Thursday, Sept, 8, pointing a shotgun at an employee and demanding money.
He fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, but was arrested soon after RCMP responded, and with the help of a Good Samaritan.
“Police immediately attended and set up containment of the scene. While actively searching for the suspect, police located the firearm hidden in some brush,” said North District RCMP.
“The suspect was soon spotted and after a lengthy foot pursuit, and with the help of a private citizen, the suspect was arrested.”
Police say Ian McMillan, 37, is charged with robbery using a restricted or prohibited firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of stolen property, and willfully resisting a peace officer.
He remains in custody.
