An evacuation alert put in place by the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality for the Coal River area has now been lifted.
On Thursday, the NRRM issued the alert after recommendations from the B.C. Wildfire Service due to concerns over a wildfire just 3.3 kilometres from the community.
That fire, estimated at 60 hectares, is now being held.
While the alert has been rescinded, the municipality is still recommending residents and visitors in the area to keep a close eye on possible changing conditions.
The Coal River fire is one of five in the Prince George Fire Centre.
The four others are:
- 15 km west of Ingenika (Williston Lake) – 28 hectares (being held)
- West of Muncho Lake – 10 hectares (out of control)
- Tututi Lake Provincial Park (due north of Smithers) – 2 hectares (under control)
- Island on Peace River (2 km south of Halfway River) – 2 hectares (new status)
A blaze in a remote area near Dall Lake has been extinguished.
