Flood Watch eased to High Streamflow Advisory for Peace

Rivers could still rise depending on local precipitation

BC Rivers Forecast Centre has downgraded Friday's Flood Watch to a High Streamflow Advisory as rain over the Peace eases. Thundershowers are still in the forecast.

With an easing in the rainfall, BC’s Rivers Forecast Centre has downgraded Friday's Flood Watch to a High Streamflow Advisory.

The warning is still up for the entire Peace region including rivers and tributaries around Fort St. John, Taylor, Chetwynd, Moberly Lake, the Pine Pass, Hudson’s Hope, and Dawson Creek.

“Precipitation amounts around 10-50 mm have been observed through the region since Thursday. Rivers have responded to this precipitation throughout the region, rising to their 2-5 year return period thresholds,” according to an update issued by the centre at 12 noon, Saturday.

“Further increases are possible on larger river systems (such as the Moberly River) where precipitation-driven flows will take more time to move downstream. Scattered precipitation continues to show within the forecast for the region; however, total precipitation amounts are within the 10-30 mm range over the next three days.”

Conditions, however, could change with a forecast of thundershowers throughout the region.

“Such storms can drop locally significant amounts of precipitation; such watershed-specific intense rain events can have larger (and difficult to forecast) impacts, especially within smaller watersheds,” it added.

The forecast is calling for unstable weather over the next 48 hours.
