Registration is set to open this Monday for the Fort Nelson Petroleum Association’s annual golf tournament.
Louise Schindler, the association’s executive director, said the tournament is open to 144 golfers. Registration will be open until June 15.
The Petroleum Association was formed in 1970, “to allow those working in the Industry a place for networking, recreational and social departures,” its website states.
This charity tournament is a long-standing tradition for the association, having gone on for at least 35 years, said Schindler.
This year's event is somewhat different.
“This is the first year we’ve partnered with the [Fort Nelson Hospital and Healthcare Foundation],” she said.
Leonda Clarke, the executive director of the Fort Nelson Hospital and Healthcare Foundation, said her group is committed to raising $90,000 out of a $450,000 budget to renovate the morgue.
The other $360,000 would be provided by Northern Health and the Northern Rockies Regional Hospital District.
The renovation project, which is currently under way, would upgrade existing equipment in the morgue and provide a viewing room for families to be able to say their goodbyes.
Clarke said she was pleased to receive support from member of the Fort Nelson Petroleum Association.
“Any donations that we receive are greatly appreciated,” she said.
The tournament will be held Aug. 20 to Aug. 22 at the Poplar Hills Golf and Country Club. Tee off is at 7 a.m.
