Funds are flowing through the Canadian Experiences Fund, "which supports Canadian businesses and organizations seeking to create, improve, or enhance tourism products, facilities, and experiences,” the government said in a news release.

"These investments will enable communities and businesses in Western Canada to develop tourism products and experiences to attract more tourists year-round,” federal tourism minister Mélanie Joly said in a statement.

“This will help communities big-and-small reap the benefits of the global tourism boom to diversify their economies and create good jobs for middle-class families while showcasing Canada's brand, centred on shared values of diversity and equality."

The society began the hard work of building itself up as a winter tourism destination in March with the first annual Northern Lights Festival, which drew visitors from around the world for an authentic Northern B.C. experience, and soak in the Northern Lights.

The festival also looked to challenge the the Guinness record for the world's largest snowman.
