Internet outage north of FSJ

No source found; may be related to Thursday's collision on the Sikanni River Bridge

Northwest Tel reports its internet and long distance services are down in Blueberry River, Halfway River, Wonowon and Pink Mountain. It's looking into the source of the problem.

Over one hundred Northwest Tel customers north of Fort St. John are without internet and long distance services.

Communities affected include Blueberry River, Wonowon, Pink Mountain and Halfway River.

While it's possible the outage is related to last night's crash and fire on the Sikanni River bridge, the utility isn't sure of the cause.

Our crews haven't yet been able to confirm the fire along the Alaska Highway is impacting our fibre line,” said senior manager of communications, Catherine Newsome.

We haven't been able to get eyes on our infrastructure because our crews can't safely access it.”

A crew, she added, is in the area and waiting for the green light.

The highway remains closed to all traffic.

There's no indication, at this time, that any other communities along the Alaska Highway corridor, including Fort Nelson, are affected by the outage.
