Pile burning planned at Fort Nelson airport

Operation to improve runway safety, says wildfire service

The BC Wildfire Service is advising of a planned burn this weekend at the Fort Nelson airport.

In a release, the wildfire service says 40 piles will be burned at the end of runway 04, and is being done on behalf of the municipality.

Burning could start as early as Saturday and continue into Sunday, depending on weather conditions, according to the wildfire service.

Local smoke is expected in the area.

“The purpose of this project is to improve safety for the airport runway,” the wildfire service said.
