Rain, rain on the way

Up to 70 mm expected in areas around Fort Nelson, Muncho Lake
Rain

Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Fort Nelson and Muncho Lake-Stone Mountain Park.

The weather agency says 30 to 60 mm is expected today today and tonight with rainfall heaviest near the Rockies. For the Muncho Lake-Stone Mountain area, 50 to 70 mm is expected.

“A slow-moving low pressure system will develop over northeastern BC. The system will bring a relatively narrow band of heavy rain to the region, more so to locations near the Rockies,” Environment Canada says.

“There is some uncertainty associated with the location of the heaviest band of rain, and that will impact the rainfall amounts in the region.”

The rain will taper off early Thursday as the system moves southeast, the agency said.

Environment Canada warns that heavy rainfall can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Motorists are urged to watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts.
