The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality says repairs are underway after unknown persons illegally accessed power from its community forest.
Staff were carrying out routine maintenance in the forest and found someone had removed the locks from boxes attached to power poles, with a "pigtail" device connected to one of them.
"This unauthorized accessing of power is an extremely unsafe activity which poses a danger both to the perpetrators and other residents using the area for regular recreation," the municipality said in a February 7 news release.
Repairs are underway to secure the boxes, it said.
"We would like to point out the issue as it affects many people when damage is done to public property," the municipality said.
"Discourage those you see about to damage something. Report those who damage property. Protect our community from the few who choose to put others at risk and incur costs to taxpayers."
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
