The Peace River Regional District approved $55,000 for healthcare scholarships earlier this month.
A memorandum of understanding with Northern Health was discussed at the Oct. 8 board meeting, and outlines a co-ordinated approach to support the recruitment and retention of Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurses in the region.
Scholarship opportunities will include:
$15,000 to support six Return of Service Scholarships for RNs and RPNs
$10,000 to support LPN scholarships
$15,000 to support scholarships for existing Northern Health LPNs to become RNs, and for existing NHA employees in technical positions bridging to a new healthcare career
$15,000 to support existing RNs or RPNs who have been employed with NHA for three years or more.
In 2016, the PRRD committed $100,000 for healthcare scholarships, with an additional $10,000 committed in 2018.
