The Dinosaur Lake boat launch as well as campgrounds at Cameron Lake, King Gething, Alwin Holland, and Dinosaur Lake remain remain closed until further notice.
This is due to COVID-19 and in adhering to the provincial government's request to limit getherings and avoid non-essential travel, the District of Hudson's Hope says.
A provincial health order has closed all provincial recreation sites and camping facilities, as well as day use shelters, boat launches, playgrounds, and outhouses in provincial parks until May 31.
“Over the next four weeks, District Staff will begin the annual process to bringing the campgrounds online. This includes repairing and replacing picnic tables, gravelling and leveling campsites, replacing damaged fire pits, fixing any minor deficiencies, and other repair and maintenance activities," Mayor Dave Heiberg said.
"Bringing the campgrounds online does not mean they will be open to the public. It means the campgrounds will be made operationally ready to open if and when the Order is lifted.
The District’s campground reservation system will not be accepting any reservations at this time.
If the health order is extended beyond May 31, council will review and make a decision on whether to continue with the closures, Heiberg said.
"We are hopeful these temporary measures can be removed as quickly as possible and residents and visitors can get out and enjoy the Playground of the Peace," he said.
The Hudson’s Hope pool is closed to the public until May 31 to comply with provincial health orders.
District staff will continue to prep the pool to bring it online if and when health orders are rescinded.
“Bringing the pool online does mean it will be open to the public. It is uncertain whether the District swimming pool will be allowed to open as planned or even at all,” said Mayor Heiberg.
Council is expected to make a definitive decision when information comes available from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
In the meantime, the pool will be cleaned and inspected, and the heating and chlorine systems will also be tested. Repair and upkeep should take about two weeks.
