Licensed daycare opening in Hudson's Hope

Hudson's Hope is finally getting a daycare next month. Wildflowers Child Care is a provincially licensed daycare and expects to open by October 1. No licensed preschools or daycares currently operate in the small town.

The daycare will be privately run out of the home of Trina Commandeur, a licensed Early Childhood Educator, with additional certifications in toddler care and special needs.

“I do believe in children being able to explore and just be children, so that’s where a lot of the outdoor play and nature exploration comes in,” said Commandeur. “Not all children are at the same level where they can just sit down and put pen to paper.”

The daycare will focus on outdoor play, with a garden to be built next spring. The home has been proofed for COVID-19, says Commandeur.

Commandeur moved to Hudson’s Hope last year where she worked as an education assistant at the local elementary for children in kindergarten and grade one.

An open house was held earlier this month, following a provincial inspection of the daycare.

“I think because it’s a small community, it’s going to be supported well,” said Commandeur, noting community response has been positive.
