12 Days of Christmas Giving returns

Hudson's Hope businesses, community come together to help families in need

The RCMP in Hudson’s Hope is holding their annual 12 Days of Christmas Giving toy drive until December 12th.

Each year we partner with the Friends of Hudson’s Hope Society, the District of Hudson’s Hope, and the Hudson’s Hope Elementary-Secondary School, to bring in new toys, gift cards and monetary donations, and over the past couple years we have also been able to successfully donate comfort items and gifts to local seniors, as well.

This toy drive was inspired by Freyja Schmidt three years ago. She told her mom she wanted to give her toys to kids who might not have any or may not get any for Christmas. Using the resources available, the RCMP has been able to bring together the entire community to fulfill this goal, and now at age 6, Freyja is the driving force behind the toy drive.  Over the past 3 years, many local businesses have supported this fundraiser by having bins set up and the town works together to make it a success. In addition, the toy drive has received monetary donations each year from different businesses, which has brought smiles to many faces.

This year, as we are half way through, we have seen a little less in the bins, but as the cost of living is on the rise for many people, we cannot help but think it's needed now more then ever, to support those in need in our community.  Saying that, the generosity from local businesses has been a saving grace. We would like to thank BC Hydro who provided both a monetary donation and gift cards. They were received and picked up Tuesday, by Freyja herself, from the North Peace Savings & Credit Union in Hudson’s Hope. We'd also like to thank NPSCU for their generous contribution, as well.

We still have five days to go, and are confident that we should be able to fulfill our goal of filling the backseat of the police truck with gifts and donations, but every little bit helps!  Each year the gifts and donations are brought to the Friends of Hudson’s Hope on December 13th. The FOHH are already working tirelessly to put together Christmas hampers for those in need and these bonus gifts make for a brighter Christmas for all.

If anyone would like to donate there is still time.
