Both the Peace Canyon (seen here) and WAC Bennett dams are part of an evacutation order issued by the District of Hudson's Hope Saturday.

Saturday night’s evacuation order for Hudson’s Hope did include BC Hydro’s Peace Canyon and WAC Bennett dams.

While the Battleship Mountain is burning in the area, the utility is assuring its electricity customers that it’s actively monitoring the wildfire situation.

“BC Hydro has well established plans to support the reliable supply of power to the province should the fire risk change to either the generation or transmission system,” said northern community relations manager Mike Kellett.

“At this time, no BC Hydro infrastructure has been impacted and work is being conducted to further protect BC Hydro’s people, assets, and infrastructure.”

Kellett said both facilities are currently operating with limited staff.

“Last weekend, BC Hydro activated its emergency coordination centre to support employees and operations at the WAC Bennett and Peace Canyon Dams and in other areas threatened by wildfire.”

“Our crews train year-round so that they can activate response plans at a moment’s notice,” added Kellett.
