Weekend swim, you in?

Hudson's Hope hosts its first ever Polar Plunge Saturday afternoon at Lynx Creek in support of the food bank. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at the boat launch. The plunge will take place at 1:15 p.m.

"There's nothing more impressive than to say you did a polar plunge in minus whatever weather it's going to be," said Kaitlyn Atkinson, events and recreation co-ordinator for the district.

"As far as polar plunges go, this is the one you would probably want to do for bragging rights."

As far as temperatures, it'll be a beauty of a winter day — hovering just above zero with sunny skies.

Hudson's Hope Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance, and North Peace Search and Rescue will be on site for first aid and for safety purposes. There will also be a bonfire and hot chocolate.

There is no cost to participate so long as you bring a non-perishable food donation that will go to stock the shelves of the food bank run by the Friends of Hudson's Hope.

Those who take the plunge will get a T-shirt for their bravery.

The event is new to the district's annual Winter Carnival, which runs to Jan 27.

The district will be hosting snowshoeing excursions and a portage relay at Cameron Lake on Sunday, as well as a rail jam competition and community dinner on Monday.
