The Hudson's Hope Health Care and Housing Society is looking to expand and refurbish the courtyard at the Silver Willow Court retirement home.
The courtyard is nearing its end of life, and the society says a new one would provide more opportunities for residents to socialize, especially in light of COVID-19.
“We’re trying to rebuild a sitting area for the old folks, so they’ve got a barbeque and stuff like that,” said society chairman Dennis Beattie. “We’ve done a lot of work there.”
There are 10 residents living at the facility, and the cost to refurbish and expand is $10,000.
The society is preparing a $5,000 grant application to the Plan H Healthy Community Connectedness program. The remainder would be paid out of pocket, along with any additional expenses.
Due to grant regulations, the application has to be submitted through the District of Hudson’s Hope.
“We are supporting them in this,” said Mayor Dave Heiberg.
