Hudson's Hope RCMP are investigating the theft of the Williston Ranger, a boat used to work in the waterways around the BC Hydro dams in the area.

The boat was stolen from a locked compound on Dinosaur Lake Road around 12:46 a.m. on July 6, RCMP said.

"This boat is an essential tool used to work in the waterways around the BC Hydro dams in our area," said detachment commander Cpl. Rob Gardner. "It’s a shame that someone has taken it upon themselves to interrupt this work."

The boat is described as a 2002 28-foot aluminum hull Eaglecraft, with a hull number of C06415BC on the cabin.

The boat was reported to be on a silver Road Runner tandem-axle trailer with the B.C. licence plate number 09476J. The trailer was recovered on July 7 in the Moberly Lake area, however, the boat is still missing, RCMP said.

Surveillance footage is being reviewed to identify the vehicle and potential suspects responsible for towing the boat and trailer out of the compound.

RCMP are also looking for witnesses who may have seen the boat and trailer, as it would be very distinctive moving along the highway, they said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hudson's Hope RCMP at 250-783-5241, and cite file number 2020-219.

Tips can also be made anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
